Description: The goal of our Safe Baby program is to educate caregivers of infants about infant safe sleep practices and Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention in order to reduce and eliminate infant deaths.

What volunteering will look like:

Putting together Safe Sleep packets for parents of newborns. Facilitating Safe Sleep Trainings with caregivers of infants (parents, medical professionals, highschool students, etc.). Creating infographics and brochures for the Safe Baby Program. Assisting in setting up/tearing down informational booths at community events. Engaging with community members and educating them on Safe Sleep/ Safe Baby information at these events.

We have a specific focus on preventing child abuse and neglect through our educational services and programs which target everyone in our community: children, teens, parents, and community members. We partner with youth-serving professionals throughout Washtenaw County to build a safer tomorrow. With your help as a volunteer, we can continue providing our services to the area.

The Events Committee at WACC is a group of individuals from the Washtenaw County Community who meet monthly to plan and discuss our three yearly events. The volunteer we are seeking for the committee can either participate fully attending all meetings and gatherings throughout the year, or they can assist with planning just one of the annual events. The position is ongoing, and you would be committing to a 2-3 hours per month. This position will be heavily focused on community outreach for the events, so the ability to network and talk with a variety of people and businesses is a must. 

We are currently looking for someone who can help coordinate events alongside our board member who is currently serving on this committee. This person would need have excellent communication skills, event planning experience, and the ability to coordinator with other board members, volunteers, and staff in the event planning process. We need someone committed to our vision of child abuse prevention and showing our vision through our events. We love planning fun events throughout the community, so good community ties would be excellent but not required.

Age Group: Ages 8-11 (3rd-5th Grade)

Description: We Care is a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program that’s goal is to prevent elementary students from becoming a victim or perpetrator of abuse by building upon social-emotional learning skills through mutli-model and experiential lessons.

What volunteering will look like: 

Teaching 4-6 lessons that are 25-45 minutes in length each Lessons scheduled once or twice a week for 3-6 weeks  

Skills needed:

Classroom and conflict management skills   Prior teaching and facilitation experience  Ability to provide an engaging environment for students  Confidence to deliver sensitive topic information to students 

We are looking for a volunteer presenter that is willing to work with us long term. Our current staff member is going on maternity leave at the end of April, and we would love to have someone to help coordinate and fill in the gaps with presentations.

You will be giving presentations to children ages 3 yrs old through 2nd grade, on safety, including personal safety in a short (15 min) program over a series of 10 days.

Must be available days and be willing to submit to a background check. Flexible hours - approx. 5-10 hours a week (dependent on the schools’ schedules), but for each group of children you are presenting the program to, you must be able to commit to 10 consecutive days. We serve several schools and preschools throughout the year. You do not have to commit to being the presenter for all of these, but we would like you to be able to present to a least one school a year. We will provide you with the necessary training, materials, and support to provide this program.

We are seeking a detail-oriented volunteer who can manage our organization’s website through Squarespace. Tasks include, but are not limited to, checking that our events and homepage are up to date, ensuring that the website’s mobile option is functioning, our donation links work, and updating gallery images, statistics, programs, and photos. This position is ongoing and would require a commitment of 10-15 hours per month. Prior knowledge and experience managing websites through Squarespace is helpful.
