Available Positions:

Personal Shopper: You will have the opportunity to assist clients in selecting stylish clothing and accessories that suit their individual tastes and preferences. Your role is vital in providing a personalized shopping experience that boosts confidence and promotes self-expression. This position is Thursday and Friday, 9:30AM-2:30PM.

Inventory Processors: You will have the opportunity to sort and arrange a variety of inventory ranging from children’s through adult styles. This position is Thursday and Friday, 11:30AM-2:30PM.

Requirements:

Assist clients in navigating the boutique's inventory and selecting clothing items and accessories that complement their unique style. Provide attentive and friendly customer service throughout the shopping experience, ensuring that clients feel valued and supported.

Requirements:

·       A passion for fashion and a keen eye for style. Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, and organizational skills.

·       Understanding of clothing sizing.

·       Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse clientele and team members.

Zaman International is seeking the following donations to continue to provide basic needs assistance to local families in need, especially single mother households and refugee/immigrant households.

PACE Southeast Michigan is looking for a volunteer to teach a older adult to read at our Eastpointe center.

One of our participants has expressed a desired to learn something new - to read!

This opportunity has flexibility Monday - Friday between 10am - 2pm.

PACE Southeast Michigan is looking for someone with Mid - level computer skills to help with a project. Working in two databases (EMR specifically) - we need an individual to help move some photos from the old to the new.

This project will take 2-4 days with flexible availability Monday - Friday 8am-5pm.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center Children's After School Program is a free, personalized, one-on-one tutoring program for children in grades 1-6, designed to offer year round support, focusing on math and reading. The Children’s Education Program helps to bridge the educational gap for students who are motivated to learn and for parents who support their learning.

Volunteers act as one-on-one or small group tutors for children in grades 1-6. Tasks will include reading and language arts activities and helping children with basic math. All lessons, worksheets, learning games, and materials are prepared by staff and ready for the volunteer tutor and student to work on together.

The Children's Tutoring Program runs from 4 pm - 6 pm Monday through Thursday.

Supplies Needed:
• Sturdy container such as a cardboard box, plastic bin, or drawstring bag (one per kit).
• Please include a minimum of three flash card sets and two other items from the list below.

FLASH CARDS (age/grade indicated on box)
• Sentence structure
• Punctuation
• Adjectives
• Nouns and verbs
• Multiplication
• Division
• Fractions
• Any flash cards that are math/literacy focused

WORKBOOKS
• Vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar

We are currently recruiting volunteer tutors to help within afterschool programs. Peace Neighborhood Center offers afterschool programs for K-12th graders Monday-Thursday. We are looking for volunteers to work within any one of our 5 programs (3 elementary sites, middle school program, and high school program). 

Volunteers assist with homework, help build foundational academic skills, assist with organizational skills, and help create lasting relationships.

Our MINIMUM commitment for tutoring is once a week during the FALL
(September-December), WINTER (January-April), and/or SPRING (April-May) terms.
Volunteers must be in 9th grade or older.
We expect volunteers to be fully vaccinated.

We are excited for you to join our Peace family!

Join our Resident Service Coordinator, Christa Hughbanks in leading our after school tutoring program 3-5pm M, Tu, W at our New Parkridge community. Preschool-5yr old activities are from 4:30-5:30pm and all ages are welcome from 4-5pm. Activities are varied by week but for preschool age, typically include fine motor skill development, creative expression, cognitive/emotional development. For school age children, backpack checks, homework help, social emotional learning, crafts, and more. There is plenty of parking on-site in front of the Amos Washington building as well as a nearby bus stop. Volunteers will be asked to complete a confidentiality form, emergency contact form, and DHS form 1929/central registry clearance. Once these forms are complete, Ms. Hughbanks will meet with you one on one for 30 minutes prior to starting tutoring to provide an overview of the program.

Lessons for Life gives elementary, middle, and high school students with special needs the opportunity to practice life skills at Friendship Circle. The program is held at Friendship Circle in a realistic village setting that includes a bank, cafe, library, theater, pet shop, and much more! Volunteers are needed to run the venues thereby facilitating development of crucial life skills!

Barn Sanctuary is always looking for volunteers to help us at the shelter. We rely on passionate, dedicated, and talented people for so much of what we do. Volunteering at Barn Sanctuary is a truly rewarding experience; you will have the rare and unique opportunity to get to know our resident animals and participate in work that makes a difference. Volunteering at Barn Sanctuary also provides valuable experience for those pursuing careers or passions in the animal care and protection arena.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities

The bulk of volunteer responsibilities consist of physical chores. Volunteers will be responsible for mucking out stalls/pens, yards, and pastures; laying clean bedding in living areas; scrubbing and refilling water buckets; restocking hay, straw, and wood shavings; and keeping each building generally clean and well-maintained.   The animals require care every day of the year, regardless of the weather and they rely on committed volunteers to be there for them. Similarly, the Shelter team is reliant upon committed volunteers to assist with tackling chores around the property rain or shine.

All Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library volunteer opportunities require a 6-month minimum commitment.

The Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library is looking for volunteers with knowledge and interest in antiquarian and collectible books to help process donations of books ranging from early nineteenth century (and sometimes earlier) to the mid-twentieth century. In addition to researching book donations from these time periods to determine current value based on condition and content, these volunteers are responsible for posting valuable books to our online book shop, including taking and posting photos of the books.

Child Care Network is in need of individuals available to provide interpreter services by appointment and/or on demand. Volunteer interpreters will use telephone, in-person, or web-based (Zoom or Teams) tools to provide interpretation services to Child Care Network staff and clients. We would like volunteers who are fluent in Spanish or Arabic. Volunteers will be called upon on an as needed basis. It is not anticipated that interpreter services will be needed every day, however, when needed, the volunteer can anticipate that it could take up to an hour of their time. Garrett's Space, a suicide prevention nonprofit, is looking for someone to run the online auction for our fundraiser, which will be held the evening of August 24th at the Morris Lawrence Building on the Washtenaw Community College campus. This is an exciting opportunity to raise money for our important work. Last year, our auction raised $16,000 and we'd love it to raise even more this year! 

Responsibilities include:

Soliciting previous donors and finding new donors

Recording the donations 

Picking up some of the items

Coordinating a system for distributing the items to the donors. Some will be picked up at the event. Others would need to be collected directly from you. 

Organizing a table of auction items at the event and being at the event to answer questions about the auction.

We have a staff member who has worked on this auction for the past few years and also will be working on the auction this year so you'll be splitting the responsibilities. We wouldn't need you to begin until the end of March. Work will take place until the auction but the bulk of the work will be carried out during the summer.

Access to books is a key part of the equation, as research shows that children with access to ample reading materials have increased literacy at an earlier age and are more prepared for school at all levels. 

To celebrate Ann Arbor's bicentennial, United Way for Southeastern Michigan has set a goal to collect 200 books for organizations in Washtenaw county. Spanish language and bilingual (Spanish/English) books are of particularly high need!

Every Monday of the week we offer a variety of programming ranging from Boy Mentoring, Girls Mentoring and our interactive Earn & Learn program. Each other these programs need additional hands to ensure that we are supporting the youth in the community. 

On Tuesdays, we offer a hands-on Math tutoring opportunity with our youth partnering with Math 4 Success, an organization focusing on increasing youths' knowledge and comfortable in Math. This opportunity requires someone who are comfortable with coaching students through math. 

On Wednesdays, we offer a hands-on Reading tutoring opportunity for students to increase their comfortability with Reading, while also assisting them with homework. this opportunity, requires a volunteer who is interested in assigning you with reading homework and navigating them through a reading lesson. 

Our skill building program offers a variety of different components where youth can learn about different components such as communication, money, culture, etc. This opportunity requires a volunteer who is flexible, and it motivated to mentor students as they learn different topics. This opportunity can also include homework help. 

On Fridays, our students learn more about the world of technology and explore different components such as coding, AI and the basics of computer learning. This opportunity requires a volunteer that is tech savvy and is interested in teaching youth more about technology.

We put on a story time program for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers once a week.  During story time we provide sensory play, do read-alouds, go on a tour of the shelter, and meet an animal.  We know that there are many members of our community who do not speak English as a first language, so we are looking to offer a bilingual story time to include more people in our community.  

We are looking for volunteers who are fluent in a language other than English who can help us run a bilingual story time!  HSHV staff would plan the activities and take care of registration.  The volunteer would need to:

Part of this volunteer role would include working on translations independently on your own time.  The other part would require being present on the day of the program to read stories and interpret.  We typically hold bilingual story time on a Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m.  Volunteers should be fluent in a language other than English, be comfortable around animals, and, of course, like children!

When a refugee client needs something that is not in our inventory of donated items, our Resource Team will reach out to people offering those items on Facebook Marketplace. While we have had decent success with this, it is very time consuming. We could use an extra set of eyes!

This volunteer would work closely with staff to look for available items on Marketplace and make initial contact with potential donors. Staff will provide a list of high-priority items, as well as a script for reaching out to sellers. Staff will also coach the volunteer on our guidelines for what items we can and cannot accept.

We need help welcoming our guests and friends who come to the church during the week to do their laundry, take showers, pick up clothes or food, and/or just hang out somewhere with Wi-Fi and climate control. Your main responsibility will be to be present in the space and support our Homelessness Ministry Coordinator Rose in opening the door for people and helping those who want to use the services find what they need! 

Also need help doing laundry during the warming center while here during December and March.

The role is relatively flexible. You are likely to be able to read or work quietly on the Wi-Fi much of the time. However, we are also always looking for help sorting donations and cleaning-up the areas where they are kept.

We're looking for volunteers to assist with in-office activities that support the American Lung Association's missions and initiatives. Following the terrific success of the Fight For Air Climb in Detroit, and are now preparing for our LUNG FORCE Walk in October and our engagement at the Detroit Free Press Marathon in October! We would love to rally the support of our volunteer community as we move forward in planning our next events and campaigns.

IVC receives a lot of generous donations of items that we utilize as raffle prizes and in silent auction baskets for our fundraising events. However, some items we receive may not be a good fit for either of these purposes, so we are in need of someone to volunteer some of their time to help post some of the items on a selling site like eBay or Facebook marketplace. Volunteer would need to have knowledge of these sites, be able to create an accurate description of the item, and be able to look up the fair market value of the items so to post at a fair price. Proceeds received for items will be used as donations to help grow our program. 

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers tries its best to help seniors and disabled adults in the community by helping to fill needs or refer to other organizations that may be able to help them fill gaps they need to stay living independently in their own homes longer. Part of our ongoing mission to help others is doing review calls with the senior and disabled adult clients in our database to see if they have any needs or anything we can help with. Volunteer would need to be a good communicator on the phone, be able to type up notes for the conversation, and be able to relay urgent needs to staff. Training will be provided to the volunteer and would hopefully be able to assist on a weekly basis. 

Samaritas' Southeast Michigan Behavioral Health program has a grant working with refugee families from Afghanistan, called Family Strengthening Program for Afghan Families (FSI) - a home-visiting program that supports family well-being and communication for resettling Afghan families.

Afghan families have experienced difficult times due to the war in Afghanistan, being separated from family members, and moving to a new country. This program aims to support Afghan families by strengthening their family relationships and sharing resources that they can use to assist with their adjustment. We are seeking donations of gift cards to give to families in order to recruit families to participate in the program as well as to reward families who have completed the program.

Volunteers use their own vehicles to drive those who need transportation to and from doctors' appointments and other urgent appointments in Macomb, Oakland, and St. Clair counties.

Do you love nature so much you want to share it with others? Navigators lead guided hikes and nature education programs and assist with school groups. Training includes an overview of the refuge and all necessary material to present programs.

Once trained, volunteers commit to leading programs and hikes out of the visitor center and in the community. No prior experience necessary! 

If you love to fish, tell your fish stories and get others interested in fishing, this is the position for you! The Refuge fishing pier that extends 740 feet into the river and connects to a 150-foot-long fishing pier. Refuge visitation is expected to skyrocket with this new amenity.

Volunteer monitors will help guide people, answer questions and pick up litter. There is no expectation these volunteers will provide law enforcement coverage, just a welcoming face. Come join us! Minors 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a guardian.

We are looking for grant financial management expertise. This could potentially be a paid position.  

Our Parenting Support Program offers resources through material assistance and other services to children and their caregivers. This program distributes thousands of diapers and other resources for families and children every year. We are looking for support mostly on Mondays, but Tuesdays are a big help as well! Volunteer hours are flexible within the hours of 9am-4pm.

The Guidance Center offers comprehensive services to thousands of children and families year-round. 

To support these families during this critical time, donations of diapers (all sizes) and formula (all types) are desperately needed.

This role requires volunteers to come in on a recurring basis. We ask for one 3.5 hour shift per week, but understand availability may differ. Shifts are from either 9AM-12:30PM, or 12:30 PM-4PM. If your availability differs but you are interested, pleas let us know!

In a nutshell: Our Corner Store Volunteers help connect patrons to much-needed resources, including fresh food, hygiene and household items, and more! The Corner Store, located in the basement, is a free resource for both Corner patients and the community, at large. The Corner Store Volunteer will manage the overall functioning of the Corner Store during their shift.

Time Commitment:

At least 3 hrs/wk. This is a weekly shift – the same day and time each week – ideally with intention of staying for at least 6 weeks. *We are not open on weekends.

The Refuge’s interactive visitor center will be standing in the dark without your assistance! As a Visitor Center Greeter and Nature Store volunteer, you will help visitors connect to Refuge lands through a variety of recreational opportunities. The John D. Dingell Jr. Visitor Center is located in Trenton, MI at the Refuge Gateway property off West Jefferson Avenue.

If you like interacting with people from all walks of life, this is the volunteer position for you! Volunteer duties include: meet and cheerfully greet visitors; provide area and Refuge recreation opportunity information; give orientations about the work of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Wildlife Refuge System; assist visitors with rules and regulations; answer telephones; answer visitor questions; respond to visitor correspondence; distribute brochures and restock brochures. 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and appreciation of the environment and the National Wildlife Refuge System with diverse audiences.     

Age Requirement: Age 18 years old and up.

At the Refuge we strive to keep the trails up to high standards so everyone feels welcome and comfortable hiking on them. This volunteer position performs all aspects of trail maintenance and construction.

Examples of work include: mowing grass; clearing brush and fallen logs from trail corridor; trimming overhanging brush; picking up litter; constructing boardwalk and new segments of trail; and performing restoration on abandoned or heavily impacted sections of trail.

This type of work requires heavy physical labor in natural areas and in challenging environments. Participants must be in good physical condition.

The stewardship crews are the go-to team for any challenge facing the Refuge. Volunteers are invited to assist with a variety of habitat management activities including invasive species control (mowing, herbicide application, tree and brush cutting with hand saws and loppers), seed collecting/handling/broadcasting, and occasional assistance with water level management.

Stewardship crews also perform a variety of visitor services-focused tasks including trail creation and maintenance, kiosk construction, and interpretive signage repairs. This type of work requires heavy physical labor in natural areas and in challenging environments. Participants must be in good physical condition.

All necessary tools are provided.

Age Requirement: Age 16 years old and up (all minors must be accompanied by a guardian). For safety purposes, minors will never be allowed to work alone or with just one other volunteer, unless it is their guardian. Minors are not permitted to drive refuge vehicles.    

The Refuge hosts a variety of events throughout the year varying in themes and activities. As an event volunteer you will educate the public about the refuge, nature, wildlife conservation, and recreational opportunities. Main duties include staffing a variety of educational booths, children’s craft activities, and informational tables at acquaint event attendees with the refuge. They also may include set up and take down of event space.

The local American Lung Association office in Southfield, MI has volunteer opportunities for small groups a few times a month. Typically these opportunities are in the afternoon after school, in the early evening, or sometimes a few on Saturdays - late morning/early afternoon. Your group size should be between 2-5 students per shift.

Wayne County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) provides a voice for abused and neglected children in Juvenile Court proceedings through highly trained community volunteers. We believe every child in Wayne County deserves a safe and permanent home, where they can thrive. And we believe every child should have the opportunity to grow and develop into a contributing member of our community. 

CASA volunteer advocates are ordinary people, just like you, with an extraordinary desire to help children. After completing a CASA training course, CASA volunteers are appointed by a jurist to one case involving a child or set of siblings who have experienced abuse and neglect, and placed in the foster care system. A CASA volunteer gathers information to help identify the child’s needs, present written reports at court hearings, help the child understand court proceedings, recommend services and more—all to help the judge make the best decisions to guide the child out of the foster care system and into a safe, permanent home. CASA volunteers must be 21 years or older, pass an extensive screening and background check, and have the ability to commit 10-20 hours a month to the case.

The Hire MI Vet Mentorship Program provides individualized career readiness support for Veterans, focusing on resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, elevator speech, and job search assistance. This volunteer position will consist of creating/updating resumes for Veterans in SE Michigan and NW Ohio. The work will be done virtually. Military skills and experience need to be translated into a civilian resume. It would be helpful to have a familiarity with USAJOBS.gov but not necessary. 

 Expectations for Mentors

Casa Amiga is looking for tutors interested in helping students finish their GED. All of our courses are in Spanish,  necessary to be fluent Spanish, committed volunteer tutors to help with 2 hours a day, once a week. Educators with a passion for working  students from diverse educational, racial, economic, geographic, and cultural backgrounds

Become a tutor for a Pontiac student in grades 1-8.  Tutors work 1:1 in a classroom setting, focusing upon basic reading and math skills and homework.  Each student has a binder of work tailored to their needs to support learning on a daily basis.  Tutors typically volunteer for one hour/week, Tuesday - Thursday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 171 West Pike, Pontiac.  We will run a background check following application.
