Seeking volunteer callers who can make follow up contact calls to schools to share in school program opportunities and set up speaking engagements.  Callers are provided with a call list and script.  

Volunteer Callers are asked to donate 1 hour per week to make up to 25 calls to increase the awareness and visibility of the growing need for prevention and intervention strategies to redirect students in more positive and leadership roles. 

Our goal is to reach 5,000 schools!

Wayne County Airport Authority invites you to join its friendly team of Airport Ambassador Volunteers. Identified by their distinctive blue uniforms, our Airport Ambassadors can be found throughout Detroit Metropolitan Airport providing a variety of vital services, whether originating from an Information Booth or as a Mobile Volunteer.

Our volunteers serve as information resource specialists equipped to assist passengers with finding their way, flight status, baggage claim, gate locations, ground transportation, lost & found as well as providing directions for regional visitors to conventions and local events. Volunteers are often chosen to help the airport staff with a variety of duties during special events and the holidays. Our volunteers have a well-earned reputation for extending prompt and courteous assistance.

Shifts needed:
Our information booths are open from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Airport Ambassadors are asked to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week.

Qualifications:
Airport Ambassadors should be great problem solvers able to work well with a variety of people and personalities, willing to assist others, effective communicators, reliable, committed and able to remain calm under pressure.

Mission:

The mission of the Detroit Metro Airport Ambassador Program is to enhance the traveler and visitor experience by providing exceptional customer service while conveying helpful information and friendly guidance with a patient, positive attitude reflective of our community.

The medical supply volunteer helps to sort donated medical supplies into various categories like surgery, basic patient care, urology, etc. No medical background necessary.

Team leaders will show how it is done. There is not a lot of lifting involved but most work is done standing. It is suitable for age 12 and up as long as one is able to read the expiration date.

Those who do have a medical background and the time available may become team leaders. It is an ongoing position and many volunteers are needed.

Diapers for the D was started at Development Centers by a group of amazing high-schoolers determined to help babies in Detroit who don't have access to an adequate supply of clean diapers. Join the growing list of participating metro Detroit businesses by signing up for this year's drive. The 2018 collection dates are: 9/24/18 through 11/01/18.

Diapers For the D runs a successful annual city-wide diaper drive that collects diapers with the help of individuals and businesses. Each year they double their goal by adding new partners to help collect diapers. Last year, they had 16 partners across metro Detroit who made it possible to distribute diapers to 1300 families in need of diapers! This year, they plan to collect 200,000 diapers with your help!

IIMD is in need of a front desk receptionist for our immigration law department.  This is an outstanding opportunity for those interested in immigration.  The person in this role will have the opportunity to learn a great deal about immigration and immigrant service provision in the City of Detroit.  Offering general support to immigration attorney's and Department of Justice [DOJ] Accredited Representatives is an important function.  Specific tasks include:  answering phones, taking messages, logging client info in data base, communication with both clients and attorney's and photo copying and filing as needed.  

The ideal volunteer will have a passion for service, outstanding customer service skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.  The person in this role will have a great opportunity to give back to the community and work with an outstanding, dedicated, experienced and compassionate team.      

Work with Bishop James to target districts with high crime and set up meetings to discuss what they can do to help the community. We need someone to make phone calls, data entry and mailings to churches in all of the six counties that Crime Stoppers serve.

This volunteer will provide caregivers some much needed rest while the volunteer visits with the patient. While you are visiting you can utilize a reflections book and scribe your patient's life. Patient's appreciate knowing someone is writing a book about them! Volunteers can also utilize games, puzzles, books, crafts as ways to engage with patients who are terminally ill. Mostly volunteers will hone their skill of listening and creating a calm atmosphere for their patient.

We need Administrative Volunteers/Teens (18year olds ) and Retirees for several different tasks. Administrative Volunteers help our clinical director, office supervisor and office staff by making copies, packets, filing and faxing documents. Administrative Volunteers have helped our bereavement coordinator assemble mail outs. Volunteers help with the organization and assembling of volunteer orientation packets. Hospice volunteer opportunities are endless, ranging from visiting with a patient to clerical work to fundraising support. All hospice volunteers receive free training.

After completing training, volunteers choose how much time they can give. Whether volunteering for as little as a few hours a month or six hours a week, all efforts are appreciated and needed.

Many students, especially in the healthcare industry, are looking to gain direct patient care volunteer hours for their degree. Hospice is a great fit to make that happen. We provide exactly what a healthcare student needs to fulfill those hours for their degree. We provide students with the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a terminally ill patient. Our patient care volunteers will provide companionship and support to patient and their families with things such as: Friendly visits, Writing letters, Reading to patients, Light housekeeping, and Meal preparation. Every patient has specific needs that we match up volunteers to those specific needs. Not only will you gain hours for a degree, you will have an experience that you can only get in hospice and end of life care.

Any pet owner will agree that the presence of a dog will warm the heart and inspire the spirit which is why Hospice Compassus is seeking friendly canines to join our volunteer team. Volunteer’s along with their furry friends would be fostering meaningful connections with patients in the Metro Detroit area that could benefit from pet therapy. . The ideal volunteer is patient, compassionate, and has a heart for the elderly and dying.

For the protection of our patients all pets MUST be certified through an organization which assesses their temperment as therapy animals.

Therapy animals must be certified through an appropriate organization such as Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International, AKC Therapy Dog Program and Therapy Dogs Incorporated. All canines must be current with vaccinations and pass an assessment for compatibility with specific hospice patient. Some training is also required for handlers to ensure you feel equipped to help our hospice patients.

Research has shown that music has a profound effect on our well-being. Hospice patients are no exception. At Seasons, we make a difference every day to patients and families coping with terminal illness while creating a center of excellence in hospice care. As a music companion volunteer you will partner with our music therapist or other support care team member to provide music that brings enjoyment, perhaps a positive well-being and much life enrichment. The ideal volunteer should enjoy singing, playing an instrument, or sharing recorded music with others.

Hospice volunteers experience a great deal of satisfaction from their service and with the patients they visit. We do hope that new volunteers will make a commitment and dedicate 4-6 hours per month to volunteering. Direct Care volunteers volunteer in their town or surrounding towns and we always work around personal or professional schedules.
