Mission: To provide a haven in which everyone has the potential to grow, achieve dignity, and find purpose for a fulfilled life.

Volunteers of America is the charity that always steps forward to help the most vulnerable. For over 125 years, we have taken on the most difficult tasks to help Michigan’s most underserved. The name Volunteers of America was selected when the organization was founded over 125 years ago. It signified that the organization was comprised of people voluntarily choosing to help others. In those days, a volunteer was anyone who was committed to a mission or cause. Since its earliest days, when Volunteers of America brought food, medicine, and comfort to people not served by other charities, volunteering has been instrumental in every aspect of the organization’s ministry of service.

Volunteers of America Michigan supports individuals and families through housing, vital services, and community programs:

• Veteran Services – We prevent homelessness and provide transitional housing for veterans, offering case management, employment support, and access to VA services.
• Affordable Housing – We offer housing for seniors, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities, helping residents live independently and thrive.
• Social Enterprise Programs – Our Cars Helping People vehicle donation program and Thrift Stores fund critical services and provide affordable goods to the community.
• Operation Backpack – We equip homeless and at-risk students with new backpacks and school supplies for a strong start to the school year.
• Adopt a Family – We match low-income seniors, families, and veterans with community sponsors who provide holiday gifts and food.
