Who We Are

Mission: To create sustainable communities and bee populations by transforming vacant lots into pollinator friendly spaces.

Detroit Hives is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to improve the quality of life for people and pollinators. We work to improve underserve communities for people and pollinators by transforming vacant lots into educational bee farms. Founded in 2016, we now exist in over 28+ locations working to create a social, environmental, and financial impact in the Detroit and Southeastern Michigan area.

What We Do

Detroit Hives transforms vacant lots into urban bee farms, promoting conservation, education, and community revitalization. These farms provide safe habitats for declining bee populations, which are crucial pollinators for our food supply. Through tours and school visits, Detroit Hives educates the public on the importance of bees and fosters appreciation for their role in the ecosystem. Additionally, their work revitalizes neighborhoods by cleaning up vacant spaces, enhancing food security, and strengthening the community—demonstrating how bees and people can thrive together.
