Who We Are

Mission: To reduce waste, improve recycling, and keep toxins out of the environment

The Materials Management Division is a division within the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office. We provide resources for residents, including drop-off stations, household hazardous waste disposal, and education on reducing environmental impact.

What We Do

Our efforts help put materials to their best use and provide value to the community.

We host County Cleanup Days where Washtenaw County residents can recycle and dispose of many household items including electronics, household hazardous waste, bulky waste, appliances, and scrap tires. There are typically five events each year held in different locations spread out around Washtenaw County. Washtenaw County residents may attend any of the events. Materials from businesses, government agencies, non-profits, or other organizations are not accepted. Learn more and register for an event at washtenaw.org/cleanup.

Our Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program hosts opportunities for residents throughout the year. HHW includes paint, household cleaners, batteries, automotive fluids, mercury, propane tanks, and more. This helps keep toxics out of our waterways and out of local landfills. Learn more and schedule an appointment at washtenaw.org/hometoxics.
