Community Action House

Mission: To provide area families and individuals with food, clothing, shelter and the opportunity to build necessary skills to achieve a stable and prosperous life.

Founded in 1969, Community Action House (CAH) is a nonprofit organization committed to meeting the evolving needs of individuals and families in the Holland, Michigan area. What began as an initiative to support local migrant workers and low-income residents with food and clothing has grown into a multi-service agency focused on long-term stability and prosperity.

Over the decades, CAH has led efforts in housing advocacy, launched innovative case management and educational programs, developed nationally recognized collaborations like the Community Kitchen and Community Housing Partnership, and expanded economic empowerment through financial literacy, resale operations, and job access programs.

Today, CAH continues to build a thriving, resilient community through programs that address food security, housing stability, economic mobility, and holistic support services—all rooted in a belief that every neighbor deserves dignity, opportunity, and hope.

• The Food Club is a membership-based grocery store that provides choice, flexibility, and access to healthy foods along with membership perks and connection to other community resources at the Opportunity Hub.
• The Outreach team provides support, counsel, and partnership to assist people and families living in places not meant for human habitation. We work to connect to resources, build relationships, all with a “whatever-it-takes” approach.
• The Financial Wellness team provides budget counseling, homebuyer education, and foreclosure prevention counseling, along with other education services.
• The Community Kitchen provides a free, hot meal, seven days a week, to anyone who needs it. Meals are available for dine-in and to-go.
