Who We Are

Mission: To provide hope to individuals and families in need through a multitude of goods and services.

Berea Cares is a non-profit organization that strives to be that staple of hope that helps others to achieve, overcome, and win at a second chance in life. We are faith-based organization who’s community development arm services the Ypsilanti, West Willow and Willow Run communities of Washtenaw County. Berea Cares stands to be the leader that our community can count on.

What We Do

Offering compassion through all of our programming, Berea Cares aims to be a community leader in resources while minimizing the impact that hard times bring.

Our Programs and Services Include:

  • Technology Bootcamp – This is a program that will serve as our after-school bootcamp for students in grades 9 through 12 (or ages 13 through 18) over the span of 11 weeks. This fast-paced, hands-on learning platform which, through the utilization of Khan Academy, students will utilize Chromebooks to access the platform and participate in the following components: Website Creation, Pixar In a Box – Film & Media, Financial Literacy & Internet Safety, College Admissions, and Careers
  • Food Giveaway – The urgent issue our organization works to address is the challenge of serving an increasing number of families facing food insecurities during our distribution process. We have partnered with Food Gatherers Food Bank to distribute food on the 3rd Saturday of each month to any Washtenaw County resident facing food insecurities.
  • Summer Literacy – Annually, our Literacy program attracts the participation of approximately 100 children through grades 3 through 9. Our current initiative provides assistance through reading fundamentals and overall increased literacy for our marginalized youth in grades 3 through 9 who are facing challenges in reading facilitated individually or in small groups by our trained volunteers.
  • Jamari L. Moore Coat Drive – The Jamari L. Moore Coat Drive was founded to honor the memory of our directors’ nephew who was a victim of gun violence, right in our community, just months before his 4th birthday. Our Coat Drive provides upwards of 200 coats annually to children in need as well as we keep Jamari’s name alive!
