In Southeast Michigan, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan (BBBSSEM) serves children and teens—referred to as “Littles”—through one-to-one mentorship with caring adult volunteers. The organization ignites the potential within every young person, especially those facing adversity. BBBSSEM is dedicated to building brighter futures through consistent, empowering relationships that guide confidence, resilience, and success.

They serve youth across all backgrounds in Southeast Michigan, with a focus on those most in need of adult role models due to challenges like poverty, family instability, or limited access to resources. BBBSSEM believes every child has inherent potential, and with the right support, they can achieve incredible things.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the leading youth mentoring organization in the United States. We believe in the power of young people. In our work, we provide access to the people and resources needed to help young people succeed throughout their lives. Mentorship has been proven to be one of the most powerful ways to change the trajectory of a young person’s life—it has served as a positive intervention for more than 120 years. But here’s the best part-mentorship is a two-way street. Every small, shared moment—laughing over a silly joke, conquering a new challenge, or simply being there for each other—adds up to something extraordinary. These “Little Moments” create a ripple effect, bringing Big Joy to both mentor and mentee.
