Who We Are

Mission: To provide equitable access to high-quality care and education; prepare children for future academic and social success; and strengthen families through opportunities for professional, personal, and parental growth.

Established in 1934, Foundations Preschool of Washtenaw County is Michigan’s longest-operating childcare center and a nationally accredited, five-star-rated nonprofit dedicated to providing equitable, high-quality early education. We serve children ages 6 months to 7 years, prioritizing families from historically marginalized and lower-income backgrounds. With a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we go beyond traditional government programs to meet the developmental, emotional, and social needs of our community’s youngest learners. Our values—fairness, compassion, trust, and inclusiveness—guide everything we do.

What We Do

We offer year-round, extended-day programming for over 160 children annually, designed to support working and student parents. Foundations Preschool prioritizes enrollment for families with the greatest financial need, provides generous in-house tuition subsidies, and connects families to additional funding sources. In addition to nurturing school readiness, we offer trauma-informed care, emergency support services, and a safe, inclusive space for growth. Our holistic approach ensures children are prepared for kindergarten and families feel empowered and supported every step of the way.
