Who We Are

Mission: To provide an opportunity for companionship, human contact, and relief from isolation for older adults.

The Senior Nutrition Program is run by the Washtenaw County Office of Community & Economic Development. Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) has operated the home-delivered meals and Senior Cafe (formerly) congregate meals programs since 1992. These are the programs that make up the Senior Nutrition Program for Washtenaw County.

What We Do

The Senior Nutrition Program is made up of two programs:

  • Meals on Wheels Program – Seniors unable to leave their homes for any reason and unable to prepare food at home may receive meals delivered to their door. Drivers delivering the meals are usually volunteers. They not only provide the valuable service of meal delivery but also are able to check in on you or a loved one regularly during meal delivery.
  • Senior Cafe Program – This program gives seniors the opportunity to receive nutritious meals and meet other seniors in the community if they choose to do so. Meals are typically held in senior centers and churches throughout Washtenaw County. The frequency of these meals varies depending on the location.

Seniors aged 60 and over are serviced with a daily meal that is designed to meet one-third of their daily nutrition requirements. Whenever possible, the program strives to offer meals at locations in conjunction with social, recreational, and educational activities.
