Who We Are

Mission: To use taxes to build trust — and brighter financial futures.

Accounting Aid Society is a volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) program that’s been successfully offering tax and financial services to taxpayers and small businesses in Detroit and southeast Michigan for nearly 50 years. In that time, our services have returned over $440 million in tax refunds to individuals and small businesses in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties. As a result, we’ve been named a “Best-Managed Nonprofit” by Crain’s Detroit Business, a Neighborhood Builder by Bank of America, and we received a Governor’s Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Program.

What We Do

Since 1972, we have helped low- and moderate-income residents of southeast Michigan with tax preparation services and education. Through these services, we connect with clients and build a foundation of trust and confidence. This foundation becomes the first step in building better financial futures, encouraging entrepreneurship, and strengthening Michigan’s workforce.
