The holidays can be an exciting and wonderful time, but for many families seeking services at HAVEN, it can be the most difficult time of the year. Besides the normal stress of the holidays, survivors of domestic and sexual violence have added concerns about being able to provide even the simplest of items to make the time special for their families.
Individuals who received HAVEN services within the past year are invited to select special gifts for each member of their immediate household at no charge. Families also receive wrapping supplies so they can add personal finishing touches to their gifts.
In 2016, we were able to provide holiday cheer to over 700 individuals, and we hope to top that in 2017 - that's why we need your help!
We are seeking volunteers to play an important role in the success of this event. Gift Giveaway is held December 10 through 14 at HAVEN. On the 10th, 11th, and 12th, volunteers will take in donations, set up the shopping area, organize and sort the donations, and take inventory. On the 13th and 14th, volunteers will help clients with their "shopping," restock tables, and keep things organized and looking nice.
Volunteers must be age 13 or older. Volunteers ages 13-17 must have a signed parent waiver - contact Sierra at ssharpe@haven-oakland.org for the waiver.
Volunteers should be able to stand for the duration of their shift and perform some lifting.
