United Way for Southeastern Michigan believes learning begins at birth and that every child is entitled to a nurturing environment and a high-quality education that prepares them for success. We convene schools, community members and business leaders to integrate work-based learning experiences and rigorous academics to put power behind students’ diplomas.
The Find Your Future Career Exploration Fair is a space for high school freshmen throughout Detroit Public Schools Community District to:
- Gain knowledge, identify resources, and build skill sets that help connect the dots between high school, learning, personal life, and a future college and/or career pathway
- Walk away with resources and tools to immediately implement for high school and a future college and/or career pathway
- Further build high school, college and/or career awareness by engaging with workshop facilitators, corporations, organizations, colleges, and universities
- Engage in meaningful activities and interactive experiences that affirm and celebrate them— high school freshmen—and their futures
We are looking for 150 volunteers who are comfortable engaging with you aged 14-15 years old. Volunteers will escort with their same group of students through their day, leading them to their sessions, building relationships, and encouraging participation. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own business cards to network with students. Volunteers will attend two workshop sessions with their students (assisting facilitators as needed) and will assist the students in their session of exploration.
After all three sessions are complete, volunteers will help students find their school’s lunch area. Once lunch concludes, volunteers will escort students by school to their buses.
Please note: If you are registering a team/group, please enter all names and emails of attendees.
