Join us for a celebration of Earth Day at our Dexter-Linwood hub! We are asking volunteers to arrive at 11am to help set up the event which runs from noon-3pm. Volunteers will be asked to stay until 3:30pm to assist with clean up and wrap up of the event. Volunteers and community members will be joining together to help clean the site, both indoors and outdoors. We will also have a clothing closet set up outside that day so members of the community can stop by and pick up new and fairly used donated items such as clothing, toys, diapers, wipes, etc. Participants will have the opportunity to put their own imprint on the love tree in front of the house. Activities will also be set up for the children to do. At the end of the day, plants and vegetable seeds are given to the participants that helped with the cleaning of the site to plant in their own home.
As a volunteer, you will be asked to help set up the event and run one of the aforementioned stations during the celebration. Most of the activities will take place outside, so please dress for the weather.
Also please note our volunteer policy in regards to COVID-19:
Brilliant Detroit In-Person COVID-19 Volunteer Guidelines
All in-person volunteers must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. Please either provide us with a proof of vaccination before coming to volunteer or when you arrive at the event.
We recommend that you wear a mask when volunteering, especially when indoors, as some community members are not yet vaccinated. We will have masks available if you would like one.
If you are experiencing a fever, any symptoms of COVID-19, or test positive for COVID-19 anytime between signing up to volunteer and the volunteer event itself, please contact us. We will ask you to fill out a short form confirming that you have not experienced any symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 when you arrive to volunteer.
Please wash your hands after touching your face and before and after handling food or program materials. Please avoid any unnecessary contact with any individuals (participants, staff, other volunteers).
Some volunteer events may include food. At this time our food policy is as follows; shared meals will be limited. Food can be prepared and taken home to eat, but consuming meals together is prohibited.
Note that the policies above are subject to change as the COVID-19 situation evolves. We will notify you of any significant changes. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. Our top priority is the safety and health of all Brilliant Detroit constituents.
Please reach out to Aryeh Perlman at aperlman@brilliantdetroit.org with any questions. Hope to see you there!
