The Michigan Humane Society is looking for volunteers to support our Winter Straw Program, a program designed to assist low-income pet owners with free straw to keep their dogs healthy, happy and warm through the cold months. Volunteers in this role should be "Winter Warriors," meaning you are prepared to take on the cold weather as you pass out straw (outside of our warehouse). You must also be able to lift at least 50 lbs (straw bales are heavy!) and should be at least 18 years old. From time to time, you may also be asked to help pass out food from our Pet Pantry, but your primary role will be handing out straw.
Help is needed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for three hour shifts through the end of March 2018.
Volunteers are asked to wear gloves, hats, thick boots, and anything else you may need to keep warm in the cold. We will rotate inside and out for breaks, but the majority of your shift will be spent outside.
