Description

A key component of our Victim Services Program is Emotional Support. Our Emotional Support Program is growing and we are searching for a Support Group Facilitator. Our support groups are for those who have been impacted by drunk and or drugged driving crashes. Facilitators would host an Evening Virtual Support Group via our Microsoft Teams. The Evening Support Group would happen at the Facilitator's discretion sometime Monday-Thursday between 6:30pm-9:00pm ET. The Support Group on average lasts between 60-90 minutes. The Support Group meets Every Other Week. This would be a 6 hour monthly commitment. Two 1 hour Virtual Support Group Meetings, Two 30-60 minute check ins with Staff, and then 1 hour of preparation before each support group meeting. We ask you to please commit to 6 months. 

We are looking for volunteers who are either trained, co-hosted, hosted, or built Grief or Loss Support Groups or Similar types of Support Groups. YOU CANNOT HAVE A HISTORY OF A DUI/OWI FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY. 

 

Purpose: Life is forever changed after an impaired driving crash. Victims/survivors are often left bereaved, injured and financially devastated. With the emotional, financial and legal issues they face on a daily basis, victims/survivors need support to confront the various challenges that lie ahead. Volunteer support group facilitators are responsible for providing direct victim services to victims/survivors of impaired driving by way of support group facilitation. Volunteer support group facilitators do not conduct therapy or counseling during MADD support groups. Rather, they provide group coordination, gather needed materials, review exercises when applicable, attend to the pace of each session and offer emotional support.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Victim Services Specialist/Advocate or Volunteer Liaison to assess community needs for a MADD support group.
  • Procure setting for the support group and develop a schedule for the Support group.
  • Plan support group topics when applicable, gather materials (such as handouts) and procure refreshments prior to group sessions.
  • In conducting group sessions, welcome members and provide introductions, review exercises and handouts with group members, facilitate group discussion and provide emotional support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of support groups according to MADD and grant guidelines.
  • Other duties as requested.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Background check.
  • Completion of the Beginning Victim Assistance Training Institute (VATI).
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of victims/survivors of impaired driving.
  • Ethical behavior and respect for confidentiality.
  • Evening Availablity 
  • Knowledge and Skill of Zoom Webinar Platform

 

Time Commitment Required:

  • 6 month commitment
  • 6-7 hours per month
