DRESS CODE

While we suggest long pants/sleeves due to skin irritation that comes from reaching into plants/grasses, our first priority is the safety and comfort of our volunteers. There are days where we are in high heat/humidity with not much shade. That being said, we have NEVER turned anyone away for wearing shorts. Below is a list of REQUIRED and SUGGESTED dress items to keep in mind:

REQUIRED ~ NO open toe shoes ~ NO slip on shoes ~ NO tank tops

SUGGESTED ~ Hat, lightweight long sleeve shirt or jacket, rain gear, BOOTS or shoes you don't mind getting wet/muddy!

The weather is always changing and it can be 30 degrees when we start in the morning and 80 by the time we are done. Layers are always a great way to prepare.

*We supply ALL TOOLS NEEDED, GLOVES, ICE-WATER, BUG SPRAY, SUNSCREEN* If you'd like to bring water to donate that is always accepted!

If you are allergic to anything you may come into contact with at the farm (bees, for example) and require the use of an Epi-Pen, bring your Epi-Pen with you and inform farm staff

Inclement Weather Plan: When volunteering at Forgotten Harvest Farms, planning for inclement weather is essential to ensure safety and productivity. Michigan's weather can be unpredictable, so volunteers should dress in layers and wear waterproof boots or shoes to navigate muddy or wet fields. Bringing a rain jacket or poncho is a smart choice in case of unexpected rain, while sunscreen and hats are equally important for protection on sunny days. Volunteers should also check the forecast before arriving and be prepared for quick changes in conditions. Staying hydrated and taking breaks in shaded or sheltered areas during extreme heat or storms ensures everyone remains safe and comfortable while contributing to the farm’s vital mission. If a storm arises while we're out in the field, we'll head to the barn to wait it out. However, if the storm is expected to last for an extended period and it prevents us from safely returning to the fields, we may decide to end the day early and send you home. Your safety is always our top priority.
