United Way's 2-1-1 helpline provides referrals to programs to assist with food, housing, financial assistance, utility assistance and more. Help is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, from anywhere in the state of Michigan.
United Ways throughout the state are in the final stretch of advocating for $6.6 million in state funding to support Michigan 2-1-1. With budget decisions approaching, we need your help to ensure legislators understand the critical role 2-1-1 plays in connecting residents to benefits, volunteer opportunities, and work supports especially during times of federal program changes.
Volunteers are needed to email and/or call their legislators using the provided scripts and talking points to ensure continued funding for 2-1-1.
This opportunity is well-suited for individuals who are:
- Passionate about supporting community resources and equity in access to services.
- Comfortable making phone calls or sending emails to legislators using provided scripts (no prior advocacy experience required).
- Able to communicate respectfully and professionally when speaking with elected officials or staff.
- Willing to spend a short amount of time (10–20 minutes) taking action within the next few weeks.
Every call strengthens our collective voice. Help us ensure Michigan 2-1-1 has the resources it needs to continue serving families across our state.
