This is an unpaid volunteer tutoring role.
Volunteer Tutor must:
- Actively support the Student Advocacy Center’s mission, vision, values and principles of practice.
- Read, uphold and ensure appropriate implementation of all agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain utmost confidentiality and professionalism.
- Maintain excellent attendance.
- Must remain off Central Registry, sex offender registries and successfully pass criminal background checks annually.
- Notify SAC of any changes.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Commitment to advocacy, empowerment, cultural humility, trauma-informed care and restorative practices
- Background check clearance, including ICHAT, national and state sex offender registry and Central Registry clearance
- Persistence. A belief that all youth have the ability to learn.
- Ability and willingness to work with families using a non-blaming, strength-based approach.
- Good communication skills
- Organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to work in a variety of settings, including both in the home and virtually.
- The ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of community and educational resources, or ability and willingness to learn.
- Proficient and accurate in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Online Tutoring Platform (such as Zoom) or the ability and willingness to learn.
Scope of Services
- Build positive relationships with each individual student and serve as a positive role model.
- Support students in learning, review academic materials and schoolwork with them, explain how to solve problems, and check completed work.
- Help students develop student skills and organization techniques that help improve their academic performance.
- Collaborate with the student and family in supporting the academic progress of the student.
- Report and log all volunteer hours with SAC.
