Heartland Hospice provides an opportunity for caring people to help cancer patients in Belleville and beyond. Be the one who makes a difference! Heartland Hospice volunteers bring the gift of friendship to terminally ill patients. Volunteers offer companionship, lend an ear, share experiences and stories, hold a hand, give a needed hug, and offer words of comfort.
Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old to visit patients. Heartland (formerly ProMedica Hospice, now part of Gentiva) requires all volunteers to get the annual flu shot and provides it for free. Volunteers must get their annual COVID shot and provide proof. Volunteers must complete two initial TB skin tests. They must also get an initial and an annual background check and drug screening (all paid for by Heartland). All volunteers must complete an N95 mask fit test. Volunteers must be willing to have a copy of their driver's license or other ID, and car insurance (if the volunteer drives) in their files. We provide extensive training, including orientation and continuing education, to ensure volunteers are fully prepared for their work.
