Who We Are
Mission: To raise funds for research toward effective treatments and ultimately a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), while raising awareness of the disease, encouraging physical activity, and building a compassionate community.
Ann Arbor Active Against ALS is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for ALS research while fostering awareness, encouraging physical activity, and building a compassionate, connected community. Since our founding in 2008, we’ve worked to honor and support those affected by ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) by bringing people together to take action—physically and socially—for a cause that impacts thousands.
We draw strength from the enthusiasm, creativity, and generosity of our community, especially the young people we actively engage in our mission. Through inclusive events and shared purpose, we’re not just fighting for a cure—we’re building the kind of compassionate community that offers hope, connection, and purpose to everyone involved.
What We Do
At Active Against ALS, we raise critical funds for cutting-edge ALS research and provide meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to get involved. We organize community events and educational outreach that promote movement—symbolizing solidarity with those who have lost mobility due to ALS—and invite people to be active both physically and in service to others.
Our events are designed to be accessible and family-friendly, fostering understanding, compassion, and advocacy across generations. We place a strong emphasis on involving children and youth in our work to instill values of empathy, awareness, and social responsibility from an early age.
Since 2008, we have donated over $900,000 to support the most promising and progressive ALS research across the country. While a cure has not yet been found, we believe that by working together—locally and nationally—we can make a lasting difference. At Active Against ALS, we’re committed to raising funds, raising awareness, and raising hope.
