Who We Are
Mission: To build a center for day-to-day survival in the community.
Auntie Na’s Village is a grassroots community organization rooted in the heart of Detroit’s Westside. Founded in the home of Auntie Na—a cornerstone of the community for over 50 years—we provide shelter, support, and hope to those left behind by traditional social systems. From humble beginnings as a safe haven for neighborhood children, Auntie Na’s Village has grown into a nonprofit organization that transforms abandoned homes and vacant lots into vibrant centers for housing, education, nutrition, and healing. We are building an interdependent Village where love, resilience, and community come first.
What We Do
At Auntie Na’s Village, we meet critical needs and nurture the future through:
- Community Meals & Food Distribution – Serving free meals six days a week and distributing free food boxes through our Nutrition Program and Community Gardens.
- Youth Support – Providing after-school tutoring, summer programs, youth employment opportunities, leadership development, and seasonal giveaways.
- Emergency Housing – Offering temporary housing for those escaping homelessness or dangerous situations through our Housing Program and Village Homes.
- Clothing and Essentials – Distributing clothing and household items to families and individuals in need through our Clothing House.
- Health Access – Creating the Medical House to provide basic medical care and first aid for our community.
- Community Development – Transforming abandoned properties into gardens, parks, and outreach centers to strengthen and revitalize the neighborhood.
- Future Plans – Expanding into food cooperatives, creative arts programming, domestic violence outreach, and establishing a Community Land Trust to protect and steward neighborhood land for generations to come.
At Auntie Na’s Village, we believe everyone deserves dignity, support, and a community that stands together.
