Independence Rides

Mission: To provide dignified transportation for seniors and vision impaired adults.

Independence Rides was founded by a retired automotive company advanced R&D manager who was eager to act on the transportation problems seniors around the world continue to experience. We work in partnership with ITNAmerica (Portland, Maine) and are powered by ITNCountry.

Our 10-year vision: “We will build the most popular senior transportation service in the country. It will be so accessible, that any senior or vision impaired adult who wants a ride will be able to get one. The experience our riders enjoy will consistently help to brighten their days, and their families will often describe our service as a blessing. Social isolation will have disappeared from their lives, and being fully engaged with their communities will be taken for granted. Also, volunteers of all ages will seek to contribute to this effort in all the communities we serve”.

We provide safe and dignified rides for seniors and vision impaired adults in the Detroit metropolitan area. Door-through-door walking assistance is available to any rider who desires it, as well as help with carrying grocery bags from shopping trips. Currently all of our drivers are trained community volunteers. We have developed several programs designed to ensure that any senior or vision impaired adult who wants a ride can get one. These include rides for unreached and underserved seniors whose financial resources are extremely limited.
