Who We Are

Mission: To preserve the dignity and enhance the quality of life of older adults 55+ in Michigan.

The Hannan Foundation, founded by Luella Hannan in 1925, was created to support older adults in Detroit who had once lived comfortably but faced financial hardship. Evolving from its roots as a residential facility to a hub for senior-focused programs, Hannan Center now leads efforts to promote creative aging, wellness, and lifelong enrichment across metro Detroit. Our vision is a community where older adults are respected, valued, and empowered.

What We Do

Hannan Center offers dynamic programs that support healthy, purposeful aging, guided by our values of commitment, empowerment, respect, and innovation. Our services include:

  • Zena Baum Senior Service Center: Helping older adults access resources to stay healthy, independent, and connected.

  • Daybreak: A daytime caregiver program for individuals living with dementia.

  • Beyond U: Affordable creative aging classes that foster social interaction, intellectual growth, and enrichment.

  • Ellen Kayrod Gallery: Showcasing and celebrating creative aging through exhibitions, workshops, and events.

Together, we create opportunities for older adults to thrive with dignity and purpose.
