Who We Are
Mission: To rebuild one family at a time through personalized planning and care.
After the Storm is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization launched by the Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church in 2022. We launched in response to a flood in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. That same year, we also responded to a tornado in Gaylord, working with more than 100 families to rebuild and recover. The Conference quickly became the expert in long-term disaster response and recovery in Michigan, trusted by federal, state, and local partners. We felt the best way to sustain this expertise was to form an independent organization. We work with people and organizations of any religious persuasion and all donations are tax deductible.
What We Do
We work with one family at a time to restore lives after a disaster. Our case managers are carefully trained using a proven model for disaster recovery. Our goal is to help residents to achieve their goals for recovery. After the lights and sirens are gone and the initial cleanup is over, our work ramps up. We rebuild, remediate, clear debris, connect people with local resources, assist with utilities and furnishings, and so much more.
