Who We Are

Mission: To inspire and empower people living with mental illness, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2000, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas and a strong foundation of community.

Fresh Start Clubhouse is a welcoming and inclusive community serving adults in Washtenaw County living with mental illness. Rooted in the Fountain House/Clubhouse model, we believe in the inherent value and potential of every individual and the healing power of belonging. Our diverse community reflects the richness of the county we serve, and we are committed to promoting equity and social justice through inclusive practices, ongoing education, and intentional advocacy. At Fresh Start, diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just values—they are integral to how we build sustainable, person-centered care.

What We Do

Fresh Start Clubhouse provides a structured, supportive environment where adults living with mental health diagnoses—such as clinical depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia—can participate in meaningful work and social activities that promote recovery. Members and staff work side-by-side to run the Clubhouse, creating opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and reclaim purpose. We support members in returning to work and school, achieving independent living, and engaging as active, valued members of society. Accredited by Clubhouse International and recognized as an evidence-based program by SAMHSA, Fresh Start empowers individuals to take control of their recovery and reintegrate fully into their communities.
