Who We Are
Mission: To foster a love of reading, improve literacy skills, and support socio-emotional well-being in students from under-resourced communities.
Read to a Child is an elementary school mentoring program that focuses on literacy. Read to a Child will foster the love of reading, improve literacy skills, and empower underserved children by inspiring adults to read to them regularly.
What We Do
We partner with caring adults and socially-minded companies to offer a simple way to have an enormous impact on the lives of children.
Our Lunchtime Reading Program connects volunteer readers to elementary school children (those who have been identified by their teachers as needing a caring mentor, those who are not reading at grade-level, are not being read to at home, and/or whose first language isn’t English) once a week during lunch. When an adult reads aloud to a child, both parties have a joyful, rewarding experience that greatly increases the child’s literacy skills and his or her likelihood for success in the future.
