Who We Are

Mission: To provide services that connect people to resources and programs that promote senior independence, housing stability and healthy communities.

Bridging Communities, Inc. (BCI) works to improve the quality of life for the elders of Southwest Detroit by meeting their needs and the needs of the surrounding neighborhoods through creative collaboration, advocacy, and innovative programming. BCI is a grassroots collaboration involving local unions, businesses, residents, social service and faith-based organizations working together to create caring communities where people of all ages can live in dignity in Southwest Detroit. We began work in Southwest Detroit in 1980 as Ecumenical Project S.A.V.E. (Seek and Visit the Elderly).

BCI touches the lives of the frail, at-risk elderly of Southwest Detroit by supporting elders’ independence in their homes and neighborhoods through the assistance of volunteers.

What We Do

Eldercare services include friendly phone calls, home visits, medical transportation, supplemental food programs, holiday remembrances, minor home repairs, and basic lawn care and snow removal services. We also assist with MiCAFE, DHHS Bridge Card and Medicaid applications, Medicare Medicaid Assistance Programs, and more!

We also support the community as a whole through neighborhood stabilization efforts such as providing HUD-certified housing counseling, offering Land Contracts to new homeowners, park and greenspace development, and leadership building through our Youth program.
