Who We Are
Mission: To promote service and volunteerism in The City of Detroit.
Serve Detroit, housed in the Department of Neighborhoods, is a Mayor’s Office initiative. Serve Detroit engages residents, community leaders, nonprofit and corporate entities to come together for the common goal of Serving Detroit. Serve Detroit connects meaningful service opportunities with willing and dedicated volunteers. Through civic engagement, our aim is to build stronger neighborhoods and more active communities. From joining or starting a neighborhood block club, participating in a local park clean up and/or volunteering with the youth, we know that by working together, we can achieve a greater impact and help build an even greater Detroit.
What We Do
The Department of Neighborhoods has been charged with the task of eliminating blight in our districts and will be your partners in making that happen. We do this by working closely with neighborhoods, CDCs, faith-based organizations, local businesses, and other community organizations to identify and prioritize the concerns. Then we coordinate with the appropriate City Department(s) to deliver results. We will help you to address all blight-related issues, including dangerous building demolition, re-purposing vacant lots and structurally sound vacant buildings, as well as non-structural blight.
Opportunities posted will be on behalf of the City of Detroit, and our partnering community organizations.
