Description

As you may already know, United Way for Southeastern Michigan has signed on to collect signatures for the Earned Paid Sick Time Ballot Initiative!

This initiative would require that all Michiganders earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours for a small business and 72 hours for a big business. 1.6 million Michiganders currently do not have access to any paid time off to care for themselves or a family member when they are ill. We believe that no one should have to choose between sending a sick child to school and being able to pay their bills. Furthermore, no one should risk losing their job because they are sick. In addition, the vast majority of employees that do not receive paid sick time work in the service industry, including child care workers and home health aides to the elderly. If these employees do not receive any paid sick time, they may go to work sick and put our most vulnerable populations at risk.

United Way is dedicated to collecting 15,000 signatures for this initiative! But there is no way we can do it without YOUR help! That’s why we have set up trainings to come learn more about this issue and how to collect signatures.

If you are interested in learning more about Earned Paid Sick Time and/or are interested in helping us collect signatures, please RSVP to this training event. If none of the trainings will work for you but you are still interested, please email Cassie.Hare@LiveUnitedSEM.org to discuss other training options. Please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone you think may be interested!
