Walk Like MADD is a Family-Friendly event, where community members, Victims and Survivors (those who have lost loved ones or have been harmed by drunk or drugged driving), and loved ones come together to turn their pain into purpose.
Walk Like MADD is the signature fundraiser for MADD Michigan. It is not only a Fundraising Event, but a place where Victims and Survivors are able to meet with one another and turn their Pain into Purpose.
The funds raised help us put on important programs and practices that serve Victims and Survivors, and Educate the Community about the Cost of Drunk and Drugged Driving. The Donations raised help MADD attend and put on events and programming, such as Underage Drinking Presentations, Victim Impact Panels, Community Fairs, Train Volunteers, Support our Victim Services Hotline, Support Staff, Advocacy Work, Law Enforcement Recognition Events, Spread Awareness of the Dangers and Cost of Impaired Driving, Work Towards Advanced Vehicle Technology, Implement All Offender Ignition Interlock Laws, Support the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, and so Much More.
WLM is the signature fundraising event for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. MADD provides direct services to victims and survivors and their loved ones who have been killed or harmed due to drunk or drugged driving. Funds raised through Walk Like MADD allow MADD staff and volunteers to: Provide emotional support and assistance with medical and legal struggles that follow a drunk driving crash. This includes:  providing victims and survivors with emotional support, accompanying victims and survivors to court and guiding them through the criminal and civil justice systems, helping survivors prepare a victim impact statement in court so that the voice of the victim is “heard," referring victims and survivors to appropriate resources for additional help, and offering support groups in some areas; all at no cost to our victims, survivors and their loved ones. We support the heroes in law enforcement who work to keep our roads safe. We work with state and local legislators to adopt tougher laws, including requiring ignition interlocks for all DUI offenders and closing the loopholes in many existing laws through education and advocacy. While also supporting the development of technology to determine automatically whether or not the driver is above the legal limit of .08 and failing to operate if the driver is drunk. We tackle underage drinking, a problem that threatens the safety of our kids and endangers entire communities, now and down the road by enacting “Power of Parents Workshops” across the state. These workshops train and empower parents of middle and high school students to have ongoing conversations about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking. MADD offers all workshops free of charge.
