Metro Detroit Flooding Recovery Project Volunteer Blitz 2024 is a volunteer week where we will be assisting homes affected by the June 2021 flooding by removing debris and damaged items. We will also be assisting with small repairs when able and interacting with our neighbors. The flooding of June 2021 affected over 100,000 families in Southeast Michigan with over $50 million in damages. Many families suffered out of sight.
Last October, our collaborative was able to assist 23 homes and this volunteer week we are hoping to help even more. Climate change has increased the frequency and severity of storms. This Earth Month, you can help vulnerable people who are already impacted and struggling to recover.
This volunteer opportunity will likely include physically lifting items out of houses, please email us if you have concerns about this. We are in need of skilled volunteers, if you are a skilled volunteer and/or contractor, please email us. If you have questions about this volunteer opportunity, please reach out to communityimpactinterns@unitedwaysem.org.
Also, we are in need of gift card donations for supplies, lunches, and snacks, please reach out to communityimpactinterns@unitedwaysem.org to donate!
