Parent Volunteer: Lunch Duty at Mackenzie Elementary/Middle

As a parent volunteer for lunch duty at Mackenzie Elementary/Middle, your role is essential in helping maintain a positive and safe environment for students during their lunchtime. Your main responsibilities will include supervising students in the cafeteria and/or on the playground, ensuring proper behavior, and providing support as needed.

Requirements: Must have at least level 1 clearance and must wear badge at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor students during lunchtime: Ensure all students are seated properly, using good manners, and following the cafeteria rules.

  • Assist with meal distribution: Help students open their food, get utensils, or assist with any needs they may have.

  • Ensure safety and behavior: Walk around the cafeteria or playground to help ensure students are following school rules, being kind to one another, and keeping the area clean.

  • Provide positive reinforcement: Encourage students to clean up after themselves and offer praise for good behavior.

  • Help with transitions: Support students in lining up to return to class or transition to recess.

Skills & Traits:

  • Patience and a friendly demeanor

  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks at once

  • Enjoyment of working with children in a supportive role

  • Strong communication skills to engage with students and school staff

This volunteer role is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in your child’s school community while helping ensure that lunch times are safe, enjoyable, and orderly for all students.
