Description

In Southeastern Michigan, only 29% of households and communities meet the threshold of print-rich environments. With so much of a child’s success riding on their access to print materials, United Way’s Read United initiative is committed to putting more books in the hands of students across our region while encouraging our students and families to read together. Through these efforts, United Way hopes to bring awareness to the systemic barriers that impede literacy.

Volunteers are needed to deliver 1,500 literacy kits to local schools and education partners throughout Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw Counties on Wednesday, March 25, beginning at 10 a.m. Kits will include a book, along with related materials, crafts, games, stickers, and United Way materials.

Kit delivery will begin at the United Way office and volunteers can pre-select the county/location they would like to deliver to. Once delivery has been completed, volunteers do not need to return to the United Way office.
