Everyone gets sick – but not everyone has time to get better. Forty-six percent of Michigan’s private-sector workforce – nearly 1.5 million working people – don’t have access to earned paid sick time. When they or their loved ones fall ill, they’re forced to choose between jeopardizing their health or being shorted a day’s pay. It’s not fair – and it has to change. No one should have to choose between their health and their family’s economic security. All Michiganders should be able to take care of their families’ health needs without losing pay – or worse, their job. That’s why we’re fighting to ensure that all Michigan workers have the ability to earn paid sick time. Families and communities thrive when employees are empowered to take care of themselves without risking their economic security.
Join us for door to door canvassing in Southwest Detroit (City Council District 6) to inform voters of the coming election and gather signatures to get Earned Paid Sick Time on the November 2018 ballot. If you have never canvassed before, come at 10am for training. If this is not new for you, come at 11am to start!
