In collaboration with the Mayor’s Workforce Development Board Youth Subcommittee and Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC), United Way for Southeastern Michigan is hosting a Career Connections Fair to support students in securing summer employment through Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT). Students within United Way's College and Career Pathways network will be exposed to various career paths available, receive the knowledge and skills needed to help them acquire and maintain employment, and gain summer employment in alignment with their school's career pathway.


Volunteer Details


100 event volunteers are needed for the following roles:

 

  • Student Check-In: Volunteers will be responsible for checking in students from 16 DPSCD schools and additional GDYT contacts (colleges, universities, and a few other DPSCD schools). Volunteers will provide youth with a nametag, swag bag, and program
  • GDYT Interviews: Volunteers are needed to support 60 to 80 employers that will hold interviews from 9 a.m – 12 p.m. Volunteers in this area will help guide students to the respective employer interview tables, help keep time, and support student check-out.
  • Linked In Lab: Volunteers will support youth with real-time LinkedIn support – including profile creation. There will be 3 sessions hosted throughout the day in the LinkedIn Lab
  • Service Project Area: Volunteers will support the service project area by checking in student volunteers, replenishing supplies for the bundle packages and general logistical support. There will be one service project where students will help pack Baby Bundles during three 45-minute rotations.
  • Orientation and Workshop Support: There will be 3-4 Workshop Rooms with 3 rounds of workshops. Volunteers will be posted in the workshop rooms throughout the day. Volunteers will help pass out any workshop collateral, help guide students to seats, support workshop facilitators, as needed and help reset the room after each workshop
  • Booth Support & Wayfinders: Volunteers will be placed throughout the entire venue to answer questions, help guide students to their next location on their agendas, support booth vendors and facilitate lunch service.

Volunteer Training
There will be a mandatory training prior to the day of the event to review the entire program and help prepare volunteers.
