Unlike any other holiday giveaway or “adopt-a-family” program, GIFT GIVEAWAY empowers survivors who have utilized HAVEN’s services in the last 12 months to “shop” (for free) through hundreds of items that you and other caring community members donate. Volunteers accompany survivors and help them pick out special gifts for their children and themselves. It is a truly rewarding experience for everyone involved.
This year, our event will look very different from the past events. To accommodate CDC guidelines, the event will be taking place largely outdoors as a Holiday Market. There are indoor volunteer opportunities as well, however limited.
Volunteer Jobs:
December 5, 6, 7, and 8 volunteers, while adhering to CDC guidelines, will sort donations, decorate our outdoor market, and create the signs for the event. If you like doing behind-the-scenes things, love to organize, or have a creative bone in your body, this opportunity is for you.
December 9 and 10 volunteers, while adhering to CDC guidelines, will help clients with their “shopping,” manage the item tents, navigate holiday market traffic, help clients carry their gifts to their cars, and help keep our inventory room organized. On the last day, volunteers will pack up and return the space to its original condition. This is great for organizers, winter-lovers, and people-people.
Note: You do not need to find a group large enough to fill the entire shift. Your commitment is important to the success of the event; please do not reserve more spots than you will be able to fill. There will be no rescheduling due to inclement weather – the event will happen through all weather conditions.
COVID-19 Response
HAVEN wants you to be aware that we have put procedures in place based on the CDC guidelines and the Governors mandates to increase COVID-19 related precautions at this time. We will continue to adjust these procedures to align with the most current recommendations. At this time they include having staff, clients and volunteers monitor themselves for COVID related symptoms, increased sanitizing procedures and limited building capacity. All volunteers will be required to wear masks during the event. We will have hand sanitizer available, and there will be socially distant opportunities during the events.
