Volunteer with the Medicare and Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) at The Senior Alliance! MMAP is a free, unbiased, volunteer-staffed service which assists Medicare beneficiaries who have problems or questions about Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicare Part D enrollment and related issues. MMAP provides these services free of charge for western and downriver Wayne County residents through our Area Agency on Aging Region 1-C. We are seeking to increase our volunteer team and we are requesting your help to spread the word about our upcoming MMAP orientation and training classes.
The ideal MMAP volunteer is someone who enjoys learning, likes meeting new people, has some experience using computers and loves challenges. MMAP counseling services can be provided to callers over the phone, virtually or at specific sites in the community, such as senior centers. MMAP volunteers may assist older adults or individuals with a disability by helping to resolve problems and answer questions, explaining eligibility requirements, assisting in filling out forms or filing appeals, and resolving billing problems, among other issues. Last year, we worked with thousands of local residents and saved them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Training begins with a MMAP Orientation meeting and continues with online training, mentoring and assistance. One-hour MMAP Orientations are conducted the first Thursday of each month virtually at 11:00 a.m.
