Description

Adopt-A-Garden & Help Survivors Heal!

Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Join First Step’s Adopt-A-Garden program! We are a local nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and we need caring individuals, groups, and companies to help maintain our beautiful Healing Gardens.

These gardens provide a peaceful space for respite, play, staff lunches, events, and even counseling sessions—a vital part of the healing journey for survivors and their families. By adopting a garden, you’ll help create and preserve this safe, welcoming environment.

Here’s how you can help:

ü  Weeding & general clean-up Planting is not required

ü  If planting, staff approval is needed to ensure all additions are non-invasive

ü  New plants require extra care! Frequent watering is needed until theyre established, so more visits may be required

ü  Annuals will need to be removed in the fall as part of garden cleanup

ü  Choose a schedule that works for you Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly from May to October (volunteers can start anytime!)

o   No experience necessary! If you love being outdoors and want to make a difference, this is a great opportunity.

o   Some gardening equipment is available, but bringing your own tools is encouraged.

o   First Step is a secure facility, so all volunteers must complete an online application, a background check, and pre-schedule shifts with our Volunteer Specialist.

Ready to dig in and make an impact? Sign up today and help create a space of healing and hope! For more details, see the flyer below or contact Barb Davis at bdavis@firststep-mi.org or call 734.656.0757.
