Brilliant Detroit is looking to support our partner, LifeHikes, by providing volunteers for their upcoming communications workshops.
High school aged youth will be working hard over 3 days to learn communication skills that will help them gain confidence, learn presentation techniques and most importantly, amplify their own talent and their own voice. The program will culminate with each young person showing their newfound public speaking skills by getting up in front of a live audience to present what LifeHikes calls a Two Minute Talk, each young person writing and presenting their own topic. We will film this in front of a live audience of Detroit leaders and participant family members. Each participant will receive a copy of their 2 Minute Talk that they attach to their college applications and really impress any schools they apply to.
We are looking for volunteers to serve as audience members and be asked to support the youth enthusiastically. After the presentations, the expectation is that they will give the youth feedback on their talks. The volunteers will be assigned to a student 1 - 3 students to write down feedback and then provide the feedback personally to each of their assigned students after the presentations are completed. Volunteers would be able to enjoy the following reception as well.
The event will take place at the at Franklin Wright Settlements (7375 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI) from 1-3pm.
