Get ready to have your mind blown because something extraordinary is happening in Detroit's old westside!
Class Act Detroit is in the process of renovating a historic church that was once a forgotten relic into a breathtaking 13,000-square-foot creative space that will support youth programming and leave you awe-inspired!
Class Act Detroit offers youth programming rooted in hip hop, including programs related to music theory, podcasting, dance, game design, illustration and more - all with a focus on fostering creativity, confidence, and leadership. Since its inception in 2017, this community-initiated project has been a labor of love, and in late summer 2023, Class Act Detroit will have its home - but not without the help of volunteers!
Volunteers are needed to help make this new, excited space a reality! Volunteers with experience in building-related trades are especially needed, however all volunteers are welcome to help lend a hand!
Volunteer tasks include:
- Demolition and clean-up
- Plumbing and Electrical Support
- Flooring installation
- Appliance installation
- Painting
- Light carpentry
- Lightning installation
- Furniture Assembly
- Asbestos tile removal and remediation (limited to one room - volunteer would need appropriate credentials)
Open volunteer dates include from July 7 to July 22 and July 28 to August 11. Volunteer scheduling is flexible.
