Description

The Mock Rock team has already been hard at work, brainstorming innovative ideas, creating new community partnerships, and preparing to put on a great Mock Rock show.

Mock Rock was originally created in 1999 as a tribute to Michigan wrestler Jeff Reese, who passed away while training for a meet. The proceeds from the event went to fund the Jeff Reese Endowed Scholarship. Over time, student-athletes began to use this event to fundraise for a beneficiary in the community.

All money raised for the 2017 Mock Rock show will be donated to Fresh Start Clubhouse. Fresh Start Clubhouse is an organization for adults with mental illness that strives to create a place of acceptance and empowerment. Through meaningful work and relationships at Fresh Start, members equip themselves with the skills to succeed in the greater community.

"After working to raise awareness about mental health for the 2016 beneficiary, Athletes Connected, we decided to maintain the focus and extend our support into the greater community. This led us to Fresh Start Clubhouse, where we have learned they are using similar strategies to live with mental illness. In the same way that we as student-athletes rely on each other and our teams for support, the community at Fresh Start is like a team. To get better and stay better, we all need people to support and believe in us; we are excited to become a part of those people with Fresh Start through Mock Rock this year."
