Elms Family and Community Services (EFCS) is recruiting for its Human Resources Intern role. This is an unpaid volunteer position. EFCS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, located in Clinton Township, Michigan. We service youth, families and individuals in Macomb/Wayne counties and surrounding areas. We aim continuously to provide services, resources and support that will enable under-represented families, individuals and youth to overcome social, economic, educational and other barriers in which they face by gaining and sustaining successful outcomes in life.
Summary of Role The EFCS Human Resources Intern provides human resource support to the Office of the President and supports the President/CEO of the organization.
The Human Resources intern will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, and will help with important functions such as staffing, training and development, and compensation and benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies, and provides guidance and interpretation for business operations.
- Participates in development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and ongoing reports for the organization.
- Assists in researching benefits, compensation, and employee performance programs.
- Suggests new procedures and policies for improving employee experience as well as the efficiency of HR department and the organization.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with local, state and federal labor laws/regulations and applicable employment laws. Updates policies and procedures when necessary.
- Prepares paperwork and schedules for a smooth new-hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional first-day experience for volunteers and staff.
- Handles administrative tasks for onboarding, new-hire orientations, and exit interviews, including data entry in human resources information systems or other systems and audits for accuracy and compliance.
- Assists in the communication and upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational charts; contributes to policy development.
Commitment: 10-20 hours weekly for one school semester.
Successful candidates must complete a level 3 background check, which is at no cost to volunteers.
