Elms Family and Community Services (EFCS) is seeking 4 volunteers to support youth literacy in reading/math or tutoring at community libraries or community centers in the City of Detroit or Macomb County. Remote options are available. This is a volunteer (unpaid) role.
EFCS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, located in Macomb County, Michigan. We service youth, families and individuals in the City of Detroit, Macomb County and the surrounding community. We aim continuously to provide services, resources and support that will enable under-represented families, individuals and youth to overcome social, economic, educational and other barriers in which they face by gaining and sustaining successful outcomes in life. We do this through our support services, programs and community projects.
Summary of Role: The Youth Literacy & Tutoring Support volunteer assists in providing reading/math or tutoring support for under-represented youth.
Skills Needed:
- Ability to teach with different approaches.
- Effective classroom management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Demonstrates patience and commitment to students.
- Prior experience working with students who are below grade level preferred.
Education:
- Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Education.
- Preferred K-12 educator with teaching endorsement in K-5- All Subjects, Middle School English or Math or High School English or Math OR tutoring experience in English or Math working with K-12 students.
Commitment:
Successful candidates must be available to support small groups of 3-5 elementary, middle school or high school aged students for 2 hours/week during the 2025 school year.
